The 2014 National Education Plan (PNE), considering the role that full-time schools can play in the development of individuals and society, established that 50% of schools should be full-time by 2024. The objective of this research is to identify the potential impacts that a full-time school can have on its surroundings. To do so, a bibliographic survey was conducted using Scielo, Google Scholar, and the Capes periodical database. In the selected texts, efforts were made to identify the methodological approach used in the study, the theoretical foundations, and the effects of full-time schools on local development. The results demonstrated that full-time schools act as agents of change in the community, strengthening students ties to their surroundings, providing new life opportunities, and offering an alternative for addressing challenges faced by the community, with the possibility of seeking assistance from external institutions.
Keywords: full-time school; education and community; local development.
