Abstract

After the emergence of cities and the migration of rural populations to urban environments, there has been an increasing distance between man and his natural environment. In this sense, green areas such as urban parks bring back this connection between man and nature through biophilia. This study observed, through on-site visits, the characteristics of the biophilic aspects of urban parks in the city of Campo Grande (MS), and a survey was conducted, through interviews, on the purpose of using the parks and the feelings of users after visiting these environments. As a result, it was observed that in the parks of Campo Grande, biophilia is present by providing interaction with nature, rest, and the practice of exercises and leisure activities carried out mainly in the shade of the trees. Most park visitors state that they visit these areas for leisure and/or to enjoy nature. In addition, park visitors state that they feel good and more relaxed after visiting these urban green environments. Thus, it is observed that parks act as elements in the urban landscape and have the potential to contribute to the well-being of citizens. Therefore, it is extremely necessary for the public and private sectors to invest in these green areas, ensuring access for the entire community.

Key words: biophilic environments; green spaces; social well-being; urbanization.
