Abstract

The extension project "Tertulias - integrating UFRGS coastal and the community through art, culture, ecology, education, and philosophy" began in 2016, promoting philosophical and cultural events, discussion groups, short courses for the general community, and continuing education courses for public school teachers. In 2022, the events focused on the youth from public schools in the region, specifically high school students, in events called "juvenile tertulias." The students chose the themes by filling out forms available online, with topics ranging from sexual and gender diversity to issues related to insecurity. That year, 273 participants were recorded, with an estimated additional 100 participants who, although present, did not correctly sign the attendance sheet. In addition to these tertulias, there were also tertulias with general themes such as democracy, agroecology, and unconventional edible plants (PANC). In 2023, concurrently with the tertulias, a series of debates on the new high school curriculum took place, involving various invited teachers, in multiple locations, including state public schools, UFRGS, and IFRS/Campus Osório. Also in 2023, in partnership with NEABI/IFRS/Campus Osório and the 11th Regional Education Coordination (CRE), a 40-hour continuing education course focused on ethnic-racial relations education (ERER) and anti-racist education was offered to elementary and high school teachers from state schools throughout the Northern Coast of RS, encompassing a total of 96 schools.
