Legal education: the importance of including legal content in basic education

This article aims to understand how the inclusion of legal content in basic education can help to form citizens who are more aware of their rights and duties in society. Therefore, the present work presents as a problem the inclusion or not of subjects on the basic notions of Law in high school? The justification is based on the need to include legal education from an early age, in order to prepare students to deal with everyday situations involving legal issues, in addition to promoting critical thinking and understanding the functioning of the legal system. The main general objective is to analyze whether legal education in basic education is capable of providing students with relevant knowledge about rights, duties, laws and justice, preparing them for active participation in society. The specific objective is to indicate the benefits resulting from implementing the proposal in this article. The study methodology is based on biographical references and current legislation, with the main reference being the Federal Constitution, Law of Guidelines and Base of National Education and the National Education Plan. It is concluded that legal education is important in basic education and is essential to form more conscious, critical, participatory citizens and prepared to act responsibly in society, a fact that contributes to regional development.
