Abstract

The text aimed to investigate why the content related to the Contested War should be included in the national curriculum. For the implementation of the research, bibliographic research resources were used, about the Contestado, highlighting facts that occurred in the municipality of Canoinhas, SC; and documentary analysis about the Brazilian legislation related to education. To this end, the constitutional provisions, the infra-constitutional legislation, culminating in the Resolutions of the Ministry of Education were examined. Based on this analysis, it was possible to perceive that, currently, the National Common Curriculum Base brings a standardized part at the national level, which Brazilian education at all levels should follow, and a diversified part, which should serve to meet the characteristics of the local/regional context. As a conclusion, the research pointed out that the history of the Contested War had adverse effects on the economic, social and environmental development of the region, and its socioeconomic tensions persisted, shaping local dynamics for decades. Thus, this content can and should be inserted in the basic curriculum of schools in Canoinhas, SC in the diversified part of the curricular base.
